Mazda . How to Replace a Coil Spring in a Ford TaurusIn order to completely overhaul the suspension of your Ford Taurus, you must be able to remove the coil springs from your vehicle's MacPherson struts. This process is relatively simple but it's critical that you have the proper spring compression tool--don't attempt to improvise. If you don't want to buy a tool, you can usually rent one from an auto shop. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Coil spring compressor 10mm six point deepwell socket Ratchet wrench with oxygen sensor socket New upper washer and nut Step by Step : 1 Remove the MacPherson strut from your Ford Taurus. 2 Compress the coil spring on the MacPherson strut until it comes away from its seat, using a spring compressor tool. Make certain that the spring compressor tool is firmly fastened to the coils of the springs and that you perform the compression evenly. 3 Loosen and remove the large center nut from the strut, then carefully and evenly decompress the spring. You will need a 10mm six point deepwell socket to counter hold as you remove the nut with an offset oxygen sensor socket or with an open wrench. 4 Separate only the components necessary to remove the old spring from the strut assembly. Lay the components out in the order you removed them, then place a new spring into the assembly and carefully compress it to the same height as the old spring with your compressor tool. Replace the strut components to the assembly in the order you removed them. 5 Install a net upper washer and nut, tightening the nut to 46 foot pounds of torque. 6 Replace the strut assembly in your Ford Taurus. Mazda . How to Replace a Coil Spring in a Mazda 6Your Mazda 6 has coil springs instead of leaf springs in the suspension. Some Mazda 6 owners replace the coil springs for maintenance reasons; others replace the factory springs with special lowering springs to give the car a "performance" look and lowered center of gravity for more stable handling. These steps address removing the rear coil springs from a Mazda 6. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Safety stands Jack Wrench Step by Step : 1 Lift your Mazda 6 and support it by the frame with safety stands and remove the wheel nearest the coil spring you intend to replace. Use a jack to support the lower control arm, releasing the pressure from the coil spring. Remove the lower link side rear stabilizer bar bolt. 2 Loosen the inner bolt of the rear lower control arm and remove the outer bolts, then slowly lower the control arm and remove the coil spring. It is vital that the coil spring not be under tension when it is removed; the sudden release of the stored energy could result in injury or death. 3 Inspect both upper and lower spring seats for signs of wear and replace them as necessary, then install a new spring into your vehicle, making certain that it firmly seats and is oriented with the small outer diameter side down. 4 Raise the lower control arm into position (using the jack) and install the lower arm bolts, tightening the outer bolt first, then the inner bolt, to 63 yo 86 foot pounds of torque. 5 Reinstall the rear stabilizer link bolt and tighten to 31 to 44 foot pounds of torque. Reinstall the wheel you removed in Step 1 and lower your vehicle to the ground. Some cars call for a little toe-in (tires pointing inward— see Figure 19-6), while others are set with a little toe-out (tires pointing outward). The result should be a nice, straight track when the car is moving quickly. On some front-wheel drive cars, the manufacturer may set the rear tires with a little toe-in and the front tires with a little toe-out so that the tires are parallel to the frame when the vehicle is in motion. If you turn to the right, the right front tire needs to turn at a slightly greater angle than the left front tire. Your car's steering arms accommodate this feat. (See Figure 19-7.) If your tires "squeal" sharply on turns, one of your car's steering arms may be your problem. How do you know if your wheels need aligning? Look at your tires to see whether they show any of the tread-wear patterns that I discuss in "Checking your tires for wear," and pay attention to how your car steers and handles. Does it pull to one side? Does the steering feel loose and sloppy? Is your car hard to handle after a turn? If your tires show any unusual wear patterns and/or you answered yes to any of these questions, your car probably needs an alignment. Mazda . Can you put M57D30 in your 528ie39 1997?

Just stand outside your vehicle, near the door on the driver's side. Stick your hand through the open window and move the steering wheel, with your eye on the left front tire. If you can move the steering wheel at all before the tire starts to move, then you need to have both your steering and alignment checked. There should be no "play" in the steering wheel before the signal is transmitted to the tires. As you drive your car, be alert to signs that it isn't handling as easily as before. If the vehicle seems to have a mind of its own and begins to resist you on turns (and pulling out of turns), take a good look at your tires for signs of wear caused by misalignment. Checking your tires for tiear You should check your tires for wear at least once a month and before and after long trips. To determine whether you need to (a) buy new tires, (b) have your wheels balanced, (c) have your wheels aligned, or (d) change your driving habits, simply read your tire treads for clues.
